Frequently Asked Questions
What are wood flowers?
Wood flowers are made of sola wood and are an eco friendly alternative to traditional fresh flowers. The plant the wood is from is made from is called Aeschynomene aspera, but is commonly known as the sola plant. Sola wood is considered a renewable resource because of how quickly it grows in marshy areas. The sola plant is native to southeastern Asian countries like Cambodia, India, Thailand, and Vietnam. The material is super light weight and has a soft foam type feel, similar to balsa wood. On some flowers you can see natural grain, veins, and knots in the wood, which adds to the realism of the flowers. The flowers are naturally a milky white color and they can be dyed any color or remain their natural color. Some flower styles retain the natural wood bark from the outside of the plant and some do not.
How are wood flowers made?
Wood flowers are handmade from start to finish. The wood comes from the cork like center of the sola plant. Sometimes the outer bark is removed, sometimes not, and then the wood is made into thin sheets. These thin sheets are hand cut and rolled into each flower style. Due to the handmade nature, no two flowers will ever look the exact same, also adding to the realistic look.
How long do wood flowers last?
Wood flowers last forever! These flowers can last forever as long as they are cared for properly. If the flowers are kept dry, kept out of direct sunlight, and have proper air flow, they will last a lifetime. They are made of an organic material so they could mold if they get wet or are placed in a humid/stuffy basement or storage.
Can wood flowers be used outside?
They absolutely can! As long as it’s not raining or left out in direct sunlight for extended periods of time. If it does start to rain, bring any arrangements inside from the elements.
What flowers do you have?
The flowers I have on hand are always changing but I have access to 100+ different flower styles at any time. I can get almost any flower style for your order.
Are wood flowers cheaper than real flowers?
Wood flowers can be cheaper than fresh, but not always. Fresh flowers continue to increase in cost so often wood flowers can be slightly cheaper than fresh. However, more often the cost of wood flowers are equivalent to fresh. That being said, cost is completely customized to the florals you want and there’s added value to wood in the fact that they last forever. You could pay the same price in fresh and either have to throw them out after your wedding or have to pay to preserve them.
How far in advance should I book?
I recommend booking 6 months or more before your wedding date. I may not be able to accommodate a full wedding order with a shorter notice and may have trouble getting any specific materials to create your dream florals. Short notice wedding bookings that I can take on, may be subject to a rush fee.
